Trends

Whenever data is trended in the Discrete & Batch Troubleshooter, it is important to note that there are two types of basic trends available depending on the data being trended:

  • Continuous trends

All continuous type variables are displayed using continuous interpolated trends.

  • Discrete trends

All discrete type variables (including text fields) are trended using step trends and will not be interpolated.

Every time a variable is trended, all data will be displayed by default. There are no options for trending subsets of data.  Access the menu below for options on configuring and using trends for data visualization:

Configuring a trend

In order to display a trend for a single variable, follow this simple procedure:

  1. From the Visualization view, click on the trend icon next to the desired variable in the list of displayed variables.

Configuring multiple trends

In order to trend multiple variables on the same view, follow this procedure:

  1. Click the trend icon on the main toolbar to bring up the field selection dialog for trends

    - or -

Click the Multiple Trend button available on the Visualization view

  2. Add fields to the x or y-axes field selection, by selecting the field(s) to be added and clicking on the corresponding x or y-axes add (>) button.

  3. Remove fields from the x or y-axes field selection, by selecting the field(s) to be removed and clicking on the corresponding x or y-axes remove (<) button.

  4. (Optional:  Add all fields to the x or y-axes field selection by clicking on the corresponding add all (>>) button. )

  5. (Optional:  Remove all fields form the x or y-axes field selection by clicking on the corresponding remove all (<<) button. )

  6. Click Ok button when the selection has been made.

  7. A new trend view will be shown trending all selected variables on the same view.

Zoom features

Trend options are accessed from the trend toolbar, or by right-clicking anywhere on the trend

  1. Scroll axis

Enable/Disable scroll axis mode.  When enabled, clicking and dragging anywhere on a scale will pan the scale.

  2. Zoom axis

Enable/Disable zoom axis mode.  When enabled, clicking and dragging anywhere on a scale will zoom the scale.

  3. Scroll as one

When multiple fields are trended, enabling this options will scroll all trends as one when using the trend axis to scroll any of the displayed trends.

  4. Same Y-Scales

Enabling this option when multiple fields trended will set all Y-scales to the same minimum and maximum value across all trends.  The minimum and maximum values for the trend scales are calculated as the minimum and maximum values across displayed trends.

  5. Single Axis

This option will collapse multiple trends to a single Y-axis.  The scale for the single axis is determined as the minimum and maximum value respectively across all displayed trends.

  6. Stacked Y-Axis

This option will assign each individual trend its own Y-Axis and stack the t rends vertically.

  7. Inner Limits

    Check/Uncheck to display/hide inner limits

  8. Outer Limits

    Check/Uncheck to display/hide outer limits

  9. Toggle grid lines

Select to display/hide the grid lines on the trend

  10. Zoom in all axis
